MedImpact Receives NCQA Certification for Utilization Management
Certification Validates MedImpact’s Commitment to Strict Quality Standards
SAN DIEGO, July 19, 2017 - MedImpact, the nation’s largest privately held pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), received certification from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) in Utilization Management (UM). UM Certification demonstrates an organization has the systems, processes and personnel to conduct utilization management in accordance with the strictest quality standards.
NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to assessing and reporting on the quality of healthcare. The certification is validation of MedImpact’s longstanding commitment to providing clinically focused drug utilization management to improve quality outcomes.
MedImpact elected to participate in the NCQA review process, and obtained certification by demonstrating that its systems, processes and personnel follow the strict criteria defined by NCQA.
“We are proud to have earned NCQA certification for utilization management,” said Greg Watanabe, President and COO of MedImpact. “We are committed to effectively managing pharmacy benefits for plan sponsors, which includes applying industry standard guidelines for care to help ensure their members receive clinically appropriate drug therapy.”
MedImpact’s corporate goals are aligned with the high standards of NCQA certification. NCQA’s UM certification is a quality assessment program that focuses on consumer protection and customer service improvement. The rigorous review process consists of both an on-and off-site evaluation conducted by physicians and experts in the services being evaluated. A review oversight committee of physicians analyzes the team’s findings and assigns a certification status based on the organization’s performance against NCQA’s standards.
NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of healthcare organizations. It also recognizes clinicians and practices in key areas of performance. NCQA’s website (www.ncqa.org) contains information to help consumers, employers and others make more informed healthcare choices.
